Main Street Ministries Houston This year FPC founded Main Street Ministries Houston (MSMH) to provide a one-stop shop for those on the edge of becoming homeless. Previously the under-served, unconnected indigent trudged from service to service for leads and hope. Now, under one roof, MSMH can help those in need: • Get an ID to be able to apply for a job, obtain housing, enroll in school or apply for social services. • Find an assistance/counseling center where needs are matched with services and red tape can be cut through a vast array of community affiliations. • Get the support of job training, career counseling and job networking. • Find His Father’s Heart Ministry evening support groups offering mentoring, encouragement, accountability, discipleship, fellowship and networking. MSMH has united four very successful ministries already in place: Operation ID, Shepherd’s Center, Houston Community Voice Mail and His Father’s Heart Ministry. The WorkFaith Connection offers job training and locator services alongside MSMH. Operation ID The only ministry/service where some 7,000 indigent clients each year, who are without an ID, can get help to obtain an ID and a birth certifi cate so they can apply for a job, housing, credit, and social services. Volunteer opportunities exist for interviewers, computer operators and administrative support personnel. Open every Tuesday and Thursday morning. To get involved, contact Phil Pierce, 713-620-6476 or ppierce6(at)comcast.net. Shepherd’s Center Five years ago, the Shepherd’s Center ministry was launched with the mission to provide a clearing house of counseling, information, referral and limited financial assistance for those who fi nd themselves in indigent circumstances, and who want to change their lives for good. The limited financial assistance Shepherd’s Center offers is graciously provided through budget allocations, special Communion offerings, individual donations and special gifts. If you have a heart for those who are trying to change their lives, contact Bill White, 713-620-6475 or e-mail. His Father’s Heart Ministry This organization offers support group meetings on Thursday nights and is open to all. Volunteer lay leaders share the love of Jesus, offer mentoring, encouragement, accountability, discipleship, fellowship and networking. For information on His Father’s Heart Ministry contact Bill White, 713-620-6475 or e-mail or Trish Long, 713-620-6430 or e-mail. Houston Community Voice Mail Also available at MSMH is a free personal voicemail service through Houston Community Voice Mail, especially valuable for those needing a way to stay in contact or be reached by prospective employers, housing and social service providers. Clients who come to Operation ID or Shepherd’s Center can receive an HCVM number at the time of their visit. Contact Trish Long, 713-620-6430 or e-mail. |
