There are a myriad of serving opportunities every Sunday morning at FPC. Consider volunteering for one of these exciting volunteer opportunities: Media Ministry The Media team utilizes up to 21 volunteer hours each Sunday. In order to accommodate the reality that people need time off to attend Sunday School, for vacation, family concerns and/or illness, the volunteer base needs to expand. Training is friendly and readily available — don’t be intimidated, being a camera operator is really easier than it looks! For more information contact Kay Bones, 713-728-3641 or Karl Van Kyle, 713-620-6432. Better yet, just stop one of the Sunday morning volunteers (look for the Media Ministry name badge) and ask to be introduced to the Media Ministry. You can even get a tour of the Master Control center and an overview of how it operates.
First Press Angels Angels meet every Friday to prepare the Sunday bulletins and Church Alive. If you would like to volunteer as a First Press Angel or to request more information contact Christi Ayo, 713-620-6542 or e-mail.
FIT for LIFE volunteer opportunities Volunteers make the difference. Behind a successful ministry are a lot of volunteers! Consider volunteering for one of these exciting areas: • Youth basketball league needs coaches (commitment is November – mid-February, approximately four hours per week). Teams will have one Saturday practice and one game per week. • FIT Fall Fest volunteers are needed to bake cakes and cookies for the cakewalk, facilitate carnival games, monitor moonwalks and provide face painting. • Volunteers are needed for Gingerbread House decorating on Saturday, December 11. For more information call 713-620-6406.
Children & Family Ministry More than 200 volunteers fuel all Children & Family Ministry programs (nursery – grade 5). Commitments are about an hour per week, but timeless in rewards. More help is needed to bring the Bible out of the book and into the hearts of children. To find out how you can join this great volunteer team visit fpchouston.org/children or contact Diane Spear, 713-620-6484 or e-mail.
KDO parent involvement opportunities Parent involvement is the key to your child’s learning and success in KDO. All families are encouraged to take an active role by participating through reading a story to a classroom, sharing a hobby or talent, helping lead a project during center time, assisting in coordination of special events and praying for this program. For more information contact, Kendra Baird, 713-620-6549 or e-mail.
Choral program for children and youth This ministry provides exciting opportunities for children age 3 – grade 12 to participate in the life of the church. Children learn basic music skills while playing instruments, singing, dancing and playing games. Children learn new songs of praise and discover the songs of faith passed down over generations. In addition to offering special music for worship services throughout the year, the children’s choirs and youth choirs serve as worship leaders for The Bethlehem Story: A Christmas Eve Tradition, on Christmas Eve. Contact Dr. Diana Greene, 713-620-6437 or e-mail.
Children’s Music Ministry Volunteer Team Be a part of FPC’s Children’s Music Ministry Volunteer Team. We are building teams for choirs, instrumental, drama, costuming, staging, missions, touring and prayer. Our children are becoming ambassadors for Christ in this church, the Houston community and the national arena maybe even carrying the Gospel to other countries. If you would like to be a part of making FPC Children’s Music Program a dynamic program of education and ministry, please consider becoming part of this team. Worship & Music Ministry
Adult Choirs Christians have been singing the songs of faith since the beginning of Christianity. Singers find renewed faith, fellowship and zeal for Christ when joined together in song. Do you enjoy singing? Do you want to develop a lasting relationship with people who enjoy singing as much as you do? Would you like to experience worship from the “other side” of the aisle? Experienced or not, bring your love of music, good spirit and a willingness to learn.
Sanctuary Singers 8:15 a.m. service Wednesday night rehearsal, 7 – 8:30 p.m., Dr. Diana Greene, director.
Chancel Choir 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. services Thursday night rehearsal, 7:15 – 9:30 p.m., Dr. John Yarrington, director.
Men’s Chorus This addition to the FPC Choral program is designed for all men who love to sing and want to have great fun! The literature is selected from many styles including classical, country, jazz, pop and rock. The Men’s Chorus sings for community events and various functions of FPC including worship services. Rehearsal times TBA. Dr. Diana Greene, director
Handbell Choirs FPC has many opportunities for handbell ringers, whether you are a beginner or a solo player. Ringers participate on five octaves of Schulmerich handbells, four octaves of Malmark handchimes, as well as a second three-octave set of Schulmerich handbells.
Campanile Handbells This adult handbell ensemble plays regularly in worship, presents concerts for church and community functions and participates in area festivals.
Chancel Bells This fabulous Handbell Quartet provides music during worship and is available for weddings and parties.
Take10 Musicians Sundays, 10:30 a.m., Fellowship Hall As the FPC family gathers in Take10 for refreshments and conversation between worship services, musicians from the congregation offer mini-concerts (15–20 minutes) of sacred or classical music in Fellowship Hall. If you would like to “tickle the ivories” or play another instrument, please contact Joan Mercado, 713-526-8118, jmercado005@comcast.net, or the music office, 713-620-6436, for more details. Contact AnneMarie Wallace, 713-620-6442, for more information about these programs. Stephen Ministry Our pastors are ready to provide care to all members of our congregation. When someone needs additional support, Stephen Ministers are available and equipped to supplement the work of the pastoral staff by providing one-on-one confidential care. The Stephen Ministry is part of the pastors’ responsibility and the church’s mission to “equip the saints” to care for one another. In so doing, Stephen Ministers greatly multiply the pastoral care the church offers to the congregation. James Ministry The James Ministry was created in response to the needs of church members faced with tasks they are unable to perform on a short-term basis because of illness or injury. James Ministry can help provide transportation for individuals going to and from doctor appointments or being discharged from the hospital; grocery shopping for someone recovering from illness or surgery; or assistance for elderly or infirmed members with light bookkeeping and/or balancing checkbooks. Homebound Communion This ministry is for those who want the Sacrament, but are not able to attend worship services. Luke Hospital Ministry This ministry supports hospitalized members and their families as representatives of the Holy Spirit in a caring, loving, thoughtful and prayerful way. Volunteers seek to listen and determine needs to refer names and conditions to the church for prayers and other services. Follow-up telephone calls are made to check on the progress of the patient and/or family following discharge from the hospital. To top |
